Why this rock is probably not a meteorite:
1) No fusion crust.
2) This "rock," about 3 inches across, is composed of greenish
glass. Meteorites are are not so glassy or green.
3) Meteorites don't have layers or large-scale swirly features like
this.

What is it?
This is almost certainly a man-made object, probably some industrial
by-product. The object (this is a small piece) was found buried in
the ground near St. Louis in an area that appeared not to have been
disturbed. However, people have been manufacturing things in
the area for several hundred years and floods and bulldozers have
redistributed a lot of soil and rocks. |
