Why this rock is probably not a meteorite:
The finder found this rock on his deck in Buffalo, NY. There was a
hole in his vinyl siding. It has what could be a fusion
crust. We see no reason to rule out a meteorite.

What is it?
It appears to be a piece broken from a rock, so it would have to be
a fragment of a meteorite.
Note added later: We analyzed a piece of this rock. It has
a chemical composition that's inconsistent with any kind of meteorite
(e.g., it's 40% calcium as CaO). We still don't know what it is, however.
