Why this rock is probably not a meteorite:

This photo was sent by someone who said, "I got this meteor about 20 years ago for Christmas. I am just curious if you can ID and confirm it really is a meteor."

This looks like the sawn, etched face of an iron meteorite. The Widmanstätten pattern is prominent. This pattern can only be seen on a sawn face of an iron meteorite that's been polished and etched properly.
  
What is it?

This is an iron meteorite. It was clearly sawn and prepared by someone who knew what she or he was doing. Unfortunately, the owner had no certification or recollection of what meteorite it is.
