Why this rock is probably not a meteorite:
The shape "isn't right."
This is object was one of several found by a prospector in France
"in the bush not far from a main road." It was rusty, but
the finder cleaned it. It is very magnetic.
It might be a meteorite. I've noted elsewhere that iron meteorites
often have strange shapes (regmaglypts,
122). However, this thing just doesn't have
a meteorite-like shape.

What is it?
It might be a fragment of an iron meteorite, but it might also be
some old man-made object. An analysis for nickel would settle the
issue.
