Why this rock is probably not a meteorite:
A guy sent me this photo in an e-mail message with the subject line
"I hope this is a meteorite." The only text in the message was "please
email me back about this rock." I get these kind of contacts a lot.
For the record, I find this approach rude. As I request on my "What
to Do..." site, if you are asking me to look at your rock or
photos, you owe it to me to provide some information about the rock
and why you think it might be a meteorite.
There's nothing about this rock that suggests it's a meteorite. It
doesn't have the smooth, aerodynamic shape of a meteorite. There's
clearly two kinds of stuff at a very coarse scale. Meteorites don't
do that.

What is it?
Neat rock, but I haven't the foggiest what
it is, but I suspect that it's sedimentary. It would be useful to
know where it is from.
