Increased
flash flooding has accompanied dense residential
development of the Fishpot Creek watershed
in Valley Park, St. Louis County.
Riprap has been placed to slow the dramatic
channel erosion that threatens homes and roads.
The high-energy bedforms, the course
gravel, the erosion, the deep channel incision
below the natural
floodplain, and the lack of perennial flow
in the creek are all
consequences of unnatural flash flooding.
